Each week, Talk Wordy to Me challenges readers to beat the word nerd in a quiz challenge and post their scores in the comments.

This week is an etymology quiz I found on Encarta’s Web site. It includes one question that early readers of the blog should know the answer to.

Here’s the quiz. I scored an 8 out of 12 this week.

  1. Six. Disgusted with myself. Although I did get that parasite means dinner guest. Not sure what that says about my social life.

  2. 7 of 12.

Was assassin the one I was supposed to remember from the early days?

  3. Nathan,

    Nope. Think Long John Silver’s.

  4. 9. Failed on “halibut,” “fasces” and “tycoon.”
